What Is CSBM Lifestyle Formation?

Contemplative Systematic Biblical Meditation (CSBM) Lifestyle Formation is a CHRIST JESUS-centered framework for translating sustained meditation upon Scripture into faithful daily living. It invites people not merely to read a biblical passage, but to remain with it prayerfully, understand it responsibly, and allow its truth to shape attitudes, relationships, habits, service, and hope.

Why “Lifestyle Formation”?

CSBM is concerned with the whole pattern of life. The goal is not a momentary emotional experience or a promise of instant change. The goal is continuing formation under the authority of GOD through CHRIST JESUS. Biblical meditation becomes visible when Scripture influences how we LOVE, forgive, speak, respond to stress, care for the body, serve neighbors, and wait faithfully.

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night.”
Joshua 1:8 (NKJV)

The Meaning of the Name

  • Contemplative describes attentive, prayerful reflection in the presence of GOD.
  • Systematic means that the practice is intentional, orderly, continuing, and connected with daily life.
  • Biblical identifies Scripture as the governing source rather than personal imagination alone.
  • Meditation involves sustained attention, remembrance, prayer, and responsible reflection.
  • Lifestyle Formation describes the gradual embodiment of biblical truth in choices, habits, relationships, stewardship, and service.

Central Biblical Principles

Two central principles within CSBM Lifestyle Formation are sacrificial LOVE and forgivingness. Sacrificial LOVE names the enduring divine principle and disposition that seeks another person’s true good. Sacrificial LOVING is the continuing practice of that LOVE. Forgivingness is a formed readiness to release vengeance, pursue reconciliation when safe and appropriate, and entrust final judgment to GOD.

These principles are grounded in the commands of CHRIST JESUS to LOVE one another and to forgive. They do not require a person to deny harm, remain in danger, or avoid appropriate medical, legal, pastoral, or psychological assistance. Truth, wisdom, accountability, and safety remain essential.

A Simple Pattern for Practice

  1. Choose a biblical passage and read it slowly in context.
  2. Breathe and become attentive, allowing the body to settle without treating breathing as a cure.
  3. Reflect on what the passage reveals about GOD, human life, relationships, and faithful action.
  4. Pray for understanding, humility, courage, and obedience through CHRIST JESUS.
  5. Identify one faithful response that can be practiced today.
  6. Return and review, noticing where growth, correction, forgiveness, or support is needed.

Responsible Development

CSBM Lifestyle Formation is presently a theological and conceptual framework under scholarly development. Its proposed benefits are questions for responsible study, not established medical or psychological outcomes. Personal testimony can illuminate lived experience, but it does not prove causation. CSBM should complement, never replace, qualified medical care, psychotherapy, crisis intervention, or other professional services when they are needed.

The hope is both spiritual and practical: that sustained attention to Scripture may help people live with greater faithfulness, sacrificial LOVE, forgivingness, responsible stewardship, meaningful service, and hope through every season of life.
